Town elections are supervised by the Election Board. The board consists of three individuals who are appointed by the Mayor and Commissioners and serve for a term of one year.

Voter Registration
Every citizen who is at least seventeen (17) years of age and will be eighteen (18) years of age on or before the next Town election and has resided within the corporate limits of the Town for thirty (30) days is eligible to register to vote in Town elections.

Elections
Town elections are held the second Monday in February each year. Two commissioners are elected in even numbered years and a mayor and two commissioners are elected in odd numbered years. Terms are two years. The Town Election is held from 7 AM to 7 PM.
Elections are held at the North East Town Hall, 106 S. Main Street.
Qualifications of Mayor
The Mayor must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, must have resided in the Town for at least one year immediately preceding election and must be a qualified voter of the Town. The Mayor must maintain a permanent residence in the Town during the term of office.
Qualifications of Commissioners
Commissioners must be at least twenty-one (21)years of age, shall have resided in the Town for at least one year immediately preceding their election, and must be qualified voters of the Town of North East. They must maintain a permanent residence in the Town during their term of office.
Running For Office
Qualified voters may seek election or re-election of the office of Mayor or Commissioner of the Town of North East by filing a certificate of nomination at the Town Hall on or before the second Monday in January preceding the Town election. In addition, a Financial Disclosure Statement form, an Appointment and Acceptance of Treasurer and Campaign Manager form and Limiting Campaign Contributions and Expenditures form.
No person may file for nomination to more than one elective Town public office or hold more than one elective Town public office at any one time.
