The Town of North East Planning Department is responsible for a wide variety of land use planning. The department is responsible to enforce and make recommendations for changes to the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. The department is responsible for land use planning, zoning administration and code enforcement. The department works with County, State and Federal agencies regarding monitoring and enforcement of regulations such as the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Program, Floodplain Regulations (FEMA), Forest Conservation Act and Stormwater Regulations.
The Planning Department prepares an Annual Report in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland. Land Use. The Planning Department issues construction authorizations, permits, reviews site plans and subdivisions. The department is responsible for grant research, application and administration of State and Federal grants to help foster the goals of the Town. The department provides support staff to the Planning Commission, the Board of Appeals and to the Mayor and Commissioners. An important duty of the department is to assist members of the public through the planning and zoning process and answer questions in a concise, polite and courteous manner.
