I am very pleased to have the privilege of welcoming you to the North East, Maryland community, located in rural Cecil County, Maryland. We have a charming Main Street surrounded by a variety of homes. Our residents enjoy sharing the rich history and charm of our town, and our business owners have provided a variety of dining and shopping experiences. We have a scenic town park with picnic tables, pavilions, and a large playground. We are located at the head of the North East River, so we are afforded all of the leisure activities that the water provides, including swimming, boating, fishing, and crabbing. | TOWN OF NORTH EAST PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE PROPOSED ZONING AMENDMENT ORDINANCE 2013-05-01 The North East Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on May 1, 2013 for the purpose of receiving public comment on proposed North East Zoning Ordinance Amendment 2013-05-01. The Mayor and Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on May 22, 2013 for the purpose of considering Ordinance 2013-05-01: ARTICLE 5. DISTRICT REGULATIONS PART II – SPECIAL DISTRICTS; SECTION 5-13. “FPM’ FLOOD PLAIN MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS: DELETING THE CURRENT FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS IN THEIR ENTIRETY; REPEALING THE OCTOBER 15, 1981 FEMA FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAPS (FIRMS); AND REPEALING THE APRIL 15, 1981 FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY. ADOPTING THE MODEL FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT ORDINANCE (TIDAL) AS PREPARED BY THE MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE REQUIREMENT THAT LOCAL JURISDICTIONS UPDATE THEIR ORDINANCES TO FULLY COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM. THE ORDINANCE ESTABLISHES AND DELINEATES THE FLOODPLAIN WITHIN THE TOWN OF NORTH EAST. AMENDING THE TITLE OF SECTION 5-13 TO ‘FPM’ FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT ORDINANCE. PROVIDING GENERAL PROVISIONS, DEFINITIONS, ADMINISTRATION, REQUIREMENTS IN ALL FLOOD HAZARD AREAS AND FLOOD HAZARD AREAS; OUTLINES REQUIREMENTS FOR A VARIANCE; FOR ENFORCEMENT; PROVIDES FOR SUBSEQUENT AMENDMENTS AND PROVIDES FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THE ORDINANCE. ADOPTING UPDATED FEMA FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAPS (FIRMS); AND ADOPTING AN UPDATED FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY FOR CECIL COUNTY AND INCORPORATED AREAS. AMENDING THE TABLE OF CONTENTS, INDEX PAGES AND PAGE NUMBERS TO REFLECT THE AMENDMENT TO THE TEXT. | NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH PANEL UPDATE | | August 26, 2010
| | The North East Neighborhood Youth Panel has been in existence for two years as a community-based program for first time juvenile offenders. Over 90% of the cases heard by the panel have been closed satisfactorily and 86% of youths that have successfully completed the program had not re-offended. Hearings are held at the North East Town Hall and has the full support of the Town and the North East Police Department. | The Town of North East Water Treatment Plants is optimally fluoridating water since August 6, 2009. Adults and children who receive their water from these water treatment plants and who are taking prescription fluoride supplementation should contact their dentist or physician concerning continuation of the fluoride supplementation.
