Town Boards

• THE BOARD OF TOWN COMMISSIONERS  
  The governing body of the Town, elected by the registered voters of the Town. The Board consists of five elected officials (4 commission members and the mayor). The Board is responsible for municipal policies and legislation. Board meetings are held the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. Meetings begin at 7:00 P.M. at the North East Town Hall Meeting Room, located at 106 S. Main Street  Anyone wishing to be placed on the agenda will need to call 410-287-5801 by noon the Friday preceding a town meeting. 
  
• PLANNING COMMISSION (Residents Only) 
  A five member board responsible for land use and development regulations, enforcement of zoning, sign and subdivision ordinances. The Planning Commission meets on the third Wednesday of the month at the North East Town Hall Meeting Room at 7:00 P.M. 
  Please note: No building or other structure, (including fences, decks and sheds) shall be erected, moved, added to, changed in use, or structurally altered without an approved construction authorization. Sign permits must be approved prior to installation. For further information, please call 410-287-5801.
  
• BOARD OF APPEALS (Residents Only)
  A six member quasi-judicial board responsible for hearing and deciding appeals where it is alleged there is an error in the enforcement of the zoning ordinance, to hear and decide only such special exceptions as the Board is specifically authorized to pass, to hear and decide requests for variances. The Board of Appeals meets on the fourth Thursday of the month, as needed, at the Town Hall Meeting Room at 7:00 P.M. • BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ELECTIONS (Residents Only) 
  A three-member board responsible for the registration of voters, nominations and all town elections. For information concerning voter registration and / or town elections call 410-287-5801.
  
• PERSONNEL BOARD 
  Consists of three members and three alternates. Two members and their alternates are appointed by the Mayor and Commissioners. Employees nominate and elect a member and an alternate.
  
• RATE STUDY COMMITTEE
  A five member committee responsible for reviewing the water rate structure and forwarding recommendations to the Town Board. Meetings are held periodically.
  
• ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
  An eleven member commission for the purpose of supporting and encouraging industrial, commercial and residential development within and nearby the Town of North East.
