Every citizen who (a) is at least seventeen (17) years of age and will be eighteen (18) years of age on or before the next Town election and (b) has resided within the corporate limits of the Town for thirty (30) days is eligible to register to vote in Town elections. Town residents who wish to register to vote may do so with the Cecil County Board of Supervisors of Elections by calling 410-996-5311 or by visiting the Town Hall.

Town elections are held the second Monday in February each year. Two commissioners are elected in even numbered years and a mayor and two commissioners are elected in odd numbered years. Terms are two years. The Town Election is held from 7 AM to 7 PM.
Elections are held at the North East Town Hall, 106 S. Main Street.
The Mayor shall be at least twenty-one years of age, must have resided in the Town for at least one year immediately preceding election and must be a qualified voter of the Town. The Mayor shall maintain a permanent residence in the Town during the term of office.
Commissioners shall be at least twenty-one years of age, shall have resided in the Town for at least one year immediately preceding their election, and shall be qualified voters of the Town of North East. They shall maintain a permanent residence in the Town during their term of office.
Qualified voters may seek election or re-election of the office of Mayor or Commissioner of the Town of North East by filing a certificate of nomination at the Town Hall on or before the second Monday in January preceding the Town election. In addition, a Financial Disclosure Statement form, an Appointment and Acceptance of Treasurer and Campaign Manager form and Limiting Campaign Contributions and Expenditures form. No person shall file for nomination to more than one elective Town public office or hold more than one elective Town public office at any one time.
