The Town of North East Planning and Zoning Department is responsible for a wide variety of land use planning. The department is responsible to enforce and make recommendations for changes to the Town's Comprehensive Plan. The department is responsible for land use planning, zoning administration and code enforcement. The department works with state and federal agencies regarding monitoring and enforcement of regulations such as the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area regulations, floodplain regulations (FEMA), forest conservation act and wetland's regulations. The department issues permits, reviews site plans and subdivisions. The department is responsible for grant research, application and administration of state and federal grants to help foster the goals of the Town. The department provides support staff to the Planning Commission, Board of Appeals and Mayor and Commissioners. An important duty of the department is to assist members of the public through the planning and zoning process and answer questions in a concise, polite and courteous manner.
A five member board responsible for land use and development regulations, enforcement of zoning, sign and subdivision ordinances. The Planning Commission meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the North East Town Hall Meeting Room at 7PM.

The Board of Appeals is a six member quasi-judicial board responsible for hearing and deciding appeals where it is alleged there is an error in the enforcement of the zoning ordinance, to hear and decide only such special exceptions as the Board is specifically authorized to pass, to hear and decide requests for variances. The Board of Appeals meets on the fourth Thursday of the month, as needed, at the Town Hall Meeting Room at 7PM. For further information, please contact us.
